General Summary
The Clinical Nurse Director is a registered professional nurse responsible for the administration, direction, planning, implementation, facilitation, and evaluation of patient care in the Mental Health and Addiction Dependency Unit. The Director ensures that current mental health and addiction-care theory and practice standards are incorporated into the unit's philosophy, policies, procedures, objectives, and patient-care standards.
The Director is responsible for budget preparation and achievement, overall unit operations, quality, cost management, service excellence, and the effective use and performance of human resources.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Supervise and provide direction for the patient-care management process, incorporating the attributes of Careful Nursing
- Implement a patient-care model that reflects current practice and includes short- and long-term goals
- Foster teamwork and interdependence among staff members
- Participate in direct care as needed and serve as a clinical resource to staff
- Collaborate with other managers to support smooth patient-care flow using a patient-first approach
- Adjust staffing levels to meet patient volume and manage budget allocations
- Plan continuing education and professional-development activities for personnel
- Select, evaluate, and manage staff performance consistently and in accordance with organizational policies
- Oversee financial management, including payroll review, budget-variance analysis, and cost-saving initiatives
- Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and lead performance-improvement activities
- Develop annual goals during strategic planning and provide quarterly updates
- Serve as a liaison between the unit and other hospital departments and committees
Qualifications
Required
- Graduation from an accredited school of nursing
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree
- Current Illinois RN license
- Current CPR certification
- COVID-19 vaccination as a condition of employment, subject to legally required accommodations
Preferred
- Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) degree
- Previous nursing-management experience
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification
- Certification in mental health or addictions nursing
- Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) credential
