Assists credentialed providers with all diagnostic, interventional, and therapeutic procedures within the cardiac and vascular laboratory environments. Performs all duties in a manner that promotes teamwork and reflects KPNW mission and philosophy goals. Works under the direct supervision of a credentialed provider.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Monitor radiation safety and complete administrative tasks for proper documentation and compliance.
  • Perform quality assurance functions for x-ray equipment and protective garments/accessories.
  • Troubleshoot equipment problems and initiate vendor service calls.
  • Assist the hospital radiation safety officer with surveys and compliance documentation for the CVLs.
  • Serve as scrub, monitor/recorder, and x-ray technician for all CVL procedures as assigned by the Charge RN or management team.
  • Prepare and position patients for invasive procedures.
  • Assist with cardiovascular tests and record patient hemodynamic activity using specialized electronic test equipment, recording devices, and laboratory instruments.
  • Obtain hemostasis at arterial and venous access sites post-procedure, including sheath removal and safe management of hemostatic devices.
  • Set up, maintain, and troubleshoot all equipment used in procedures as required.
  • Recognize cardiac arrhythmias and hemodynamic waveforms, alerting the credentialed provider and other team members during procedures according to protocol.
  • Administer intra-coronary and/or intra-arterial medications under the direct supervision of a physician.
  • Prepare and maintain a sterile field using aseptic technique for procedures.
  • Support the physician in the sterile field as a scrub by assisting, preparing, and maintaining the sterile field using aseptic technique for all CVL procedures.
  • Prepare, maintain, and operate hemodynamic and monitoring equipment.
  • Perform basic and advanced life support when required, including defibrillation.
  • Maintain proficiencies to perform point-of-care tests on lab equipment, such as activated clotting time (ACT), oxygen saturations, glucose testing, and arterial blood gases (ABG).
  • Provide patient teaching regarding procedures.

Required Skills & Knowledge:

  • Proficiency with IVUS, Site Rite, Atherectomy Devices, Pacemakers/ICDs, and Coronary Angiograms/Interventions.
  • Ability to retrieve PACS images for presentation during active cases.

Qualifications:

Required Qualifications:

  • Experience: Minimum of twelve (12) continuous months of cardiac cath lab, EP, Neuro IR, and/or special procedures work experience within the last three (3) years.
  • Education: Successful completion of an accredited program in radiologic technology (ARRT).
  • Licenses & Certifications:
    • Registered Radiologic Technologist (Washington) OR Diagnostic Radiologic Technologist License (Oregon).
    • Radiologic Technologist Certification from the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT).
    • One of the following certifications within 12 months of hire:
      • Registered Cardiac Electrophysiology Specialist (RCES)
      • Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist (RCIS)
      • American Registry of Radiologic Technologists Certificate – Vascular Interventional Radiography (VI)
      • American Registry of Radiologic Technologists Certificate – Cardiac Interventional Radiography (CI)
    • NIH Stroke Scale Certificate within 6 months of hire.
    • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification within 2 months of hire.
    • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification within 1 month of hire.
  • Skills & Abilities:
    • Demonstrated customer-focused service skills.
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with peers and administration.
    • Ability to perform duties with a high level of competence and minimal supervision.
    • Maintain proficiency in all assigned roles (scrub, monitor/recorder, x-ray technician) for CVL department/unit cases and procedures.
    • Proof of continuing education to maintain registry.

Work Environment & Other Requirements:

  • Required to work on-call and respond on-site within 30 minutes of being called.
