Cath Lab Technologist

The Cath Lab Technologist assists credentialed providers with diagnostic, interventional, and therapeutic procedures within cardiac and vascular laboratory environments. This role promotes teamwork and operates under the direct supervision of a credentialed provider, aligning with our mission and philosophy.

Key Responsibilities

• Serve as scrub assistant or monitor/recorder for cardiology and radiology studies.
• Prepare and position patients for invasive procedures.
• Assist with cardiovascular tests and record patient hemodynamic activity using specialized electronic test equipment, recording devices, and laboratory instruments.
• Manage patient arterial and venous access sites post-procedure, including removal of sheaths and safe management of hemostatic devices.
• Set up, maintain, and troubleshoot the Intra-Aortic Balloon Pump when required.
• Recognize cardiac arrhythmias and hemodynamic waveforms, alerting the credentialed provider and other team members during procedures and according to protocol.
• Administer intra-coronary and/or intra-arterial medications under the direct supervision of the physician.
• Prepare and maintain a sterile field using aseptic technique for testing.
• Prepare, maintain, and operate hemodynamic and monitoring equipment.
• Start and maintain IVs with appropriate training and certification.
• Demonstrate familiarity with the use of IVUS and Site Rite ultrasound machines.
• Perform basic and advanced life support when required, including defibrillation.
• Maintain proficiency to perform point-of-care tests on lab equipment, such as activated clotting time (ACT), oxygen saturations, and arterial blood gases (ABG).
• Perform patient teaching of procedures.
• Restock supplies and maintain a clean work area.
• File work area documents.
• Actively perform quality assurance functions.
• Troubleshoot equipment problems and initiate vendor service calls.
• Assist with patient transportation.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications

• Experience: Successful completion of an accredited invasive cardiovascular technologist training program OR two (2) years of education in an allied health science (such as nursing, respiratory therapy, radiographic technology, or emergency medicine technology) with comparable work experience, including at least two (2) years of recent on-the-job training in an Interventional Cath Lab Environment. Per the National Agreement, current Coalition employees have this experience requirement waived.
• Licenses, Certifications, & Registrations
  • Registered Cardiac Electrophysiology Specialist (RCES) Certificate within 12 months of hire OR American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) Certificate – Vascular Interventional Radiography within 12 months of hire OR ARRT Certificate – Cardiac Interventional Radiography within 12 months of hire OR Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist (RCIS) Certificate within 12 months of hire.

  • Basic Life Support (BLS)

Additional Requirements

• Ability to comply with a thirty (30) minute call-back to the facility when on call for emergencies.
• Ability to recognize and interpret cardiac dysrhythmias.
• Possess analytical abilities necessary to monitor and assess patient condition and to perform hemodynamic calculations for the diagnosis of heart disease.
• Ability to work in a Labor/Management Partnership environment.

Preferred Qualifications

• Five (5) years of recent interventional cath lab experience.
• Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist (RCIS) for Cardiovascular Labs, or Registered Cardiac Electrophysiology Specialist (RCES) for Electrophysiology.
