Job Summary

Assists credentialed providers with all diagnostic, interventional, and therapeutic procedures within the cardiac and vascular laboratory environments. Performs all duties in a manner that promotes teamwork and reflects KPNW mission and philosophy goals. Works under the direct supervision of a credentialed provider.

Essential Responsibilities

• Serve as a scrub assistant or monitor/recorder for cardiology and radiology studies.
• Prepare and position patients for invasive procedures.
• Assist with cardiovascular tests and record patients' hemodynamic activity using specialized electronic test equipment, recording devices, and laboratory instruments.
• Manage patient arterial and venous access sites post-procedure, including sheath removal and safe management of hemostatic devices.
• Set up, maintain, and troubleshoot the Intra-Aortic Balloon Pump when required.
• Recognize cardiac arrhythmias and hemodynamic waveforms, alerting the credentialed provider and team members during procedures as per protocol.
• Administer intra-coronary and/or intra-arterial medications under direct physician supervision.
• Prepare and maintain a sterile field using aseptic technique for testing.
• Prepare, maintain, and operate hemodynamic and monitoring equipment.
• Start and maintain IVs, with appropriate training and certification.
• Demonstrate familiarity with IVUS and Site Rite ultrasound machines.
• Perform basic and advanced life support, including defibrillation, when required.
• Maintain proficiency in performing point-of-care tests on lab equipment (e.g., activated clotting time (ACT), oxygen saturations, arterial blood gases (ABG)).
• Perform patient teaching regarding procedures.
• Participate in on-call rotation, requiring a 30-minute on-site response time.
• Restock supplies, maintain a clean work area, and manage room documentation.
• Perform quality assurance functions, troubleshoot equipment problems, and initiate vendor service calls.
• Assist with patient transportation.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:

• Experience & Education: One of the following:
  • Successful completion of an accredited invasive cardiovascular technologist training program.
  • Two (2) years of education in an allied health science (e.g., nursing, respiratory therapy, radiographic technology, or emergency medicine technology) combined with at least two (2) years of recent on-the-job training in an Interventional Cath Lab Environment.
  • Note: This experience requirement is waived for current KP Coalition employees per the National Agreement.
• License, Certification, Registration:
  • Registered Cardiac Electrophysiology Specialist (RCES) Certificate within 12 months of hire OR
  • American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) Certificate – Vascular Interventional Radiography within 12 months of hire OR
  • American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) Certificate – Cardiac Interventional Radiography within 12 months of hire OR
  • Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist (RCIS) Certificate within 12 months of hire
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
  • Basic Life Support (BLS)

Additional Requirements:

• Ability to recognize and interpret cardiac dysrhythmias.
• Possess analytical abilities to monitor and assess patient condition and perform hemodynamic calculations for heart disease diagnosis.
• Ability to work effectively in a Labor/Management Partnership environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Five (5) years of recent interventional cath lab experience.
• Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist (RCIS) for Cardiovascular Labs, or Registered Cardiac Electrophysiology Specialist (RCES) for Electrophysiology.
