Backend Engineer (Mid-Level or Senior)

We are building a system designed to support thousands of simultaneous video interviews across varied network conditions and device types. Our focus is performance, resource efficiency, reliability, and cost-effective scaling.

We are looking for backend engineers at the mid-level and senior levels who care about building robust, efficient systems and understand the architectural and business impact of their work.

What You Will Do

Responsibilities will be tailored to your experience level.

• Build efficient AI pipelines: Architect and maintain the APIs that power our interview experience, with a focus on low latency and reliability.
• Support high-volume video ingestion: Develop robust asynchronous systems using queues and workers to ingest, store, and process video data without blocking the user experience.
• Optimize for scale and cost: Refactor and improve systems so that infrastructure can scale cost-effectively as usage grows.
• Develop payment and monetization systems: Implement secure, scalable microtransaction flows across global payment gateways.
• Scale the data layer: Manage and optimize SQL and NoSQL database structures to support candidate interactions and reporting.

What You Bring

We are hiring across two experience levels:

• Senior: 7+ years of experience. You have worked on systems at scale, can independently architect complex features, and can mentor other engineers.
• Mid-level: 3+ years of experience. You can own features, work confidently with relevant technologies, and write clean, testable code.

Technical Skills

• Strong proficiency in Node.js, NestJS, and TypeScript.
• Proficiency in Python is highly valued.
• Experience with asynchronous queues, such as RabbitMQ or Redis, and PostgreSQL.

Additional Strengths

• Resource-aware mindset: You enjoy building performant, efficient software and understand that systems must be both reliable and cost-effective.
• Media experience: Familiarity with audio or video streams, or with large binary data, is a strong plus.
• Experience with varied connectivity environments: You understand device fragmentation and connectivity constraints and build for resilience and reliability.
• Startup experience: You are comfortable shipping to production frequently while maintaining security and core system stability.
