Job Summary

The Assistant Nurse Manager, OR supports the implementation of best-practice models, patient care delivery systems, and practice standards across multiple locations. This role supports safe, high-quality patient care, clinical operations, team development, and regulatory compliance.

Key Responsibilities

Patient Care & Clinical Operations

• Support investigations into patient, family, and member concerns related to patient care and services.
• Collaborate with physicians, external healthcare providers, and team members to support safe, optimal patient care.
• Allocate resources in assigned clinical areas to support appropriate staffing and utilization.
• Supervise the use and maintenance of equipment, supplies, and medications.
• Maintain clinical expertise and provide clinical supervision, competency validation, and licensing oversight.
• Delegate tasks in alignment with scope-of-practice requirements and perform clinical duties as needed.
• Coordinate daily operational activities involving direct patient care management in a 24/7 environment.
• Supervise multidisciplinary hospital teams and support performance accountability.
• Implement and maintain emergency preparedness programs and staff training.

Team Leadership & Development

• Recommend development opportunities and build collaborative, cross-functional relationships.
• Provide feedback, mentorship, and coaching to support performance improvement.
• Support the execution of performance management guidelines and expectations.
• Foster open dialogue and motivate team members.
• Supervise and coordinate daily activities for the designated work team or unit.
• Monitor completion of tactical action items and work assignments.
• Develop work plans to meet business priorities and deadlines.
• Remove obstacles affecting performance and recommend improvement opportunities.

Administration, Quality & Compliance

• Facilitate team meetings and support management decisions that consider compliance and financial requirements.
• Maintain utilization and productivity in support of performance targets.
• Supervise cross-functional activities, including workplace and patient safety, labor relations, quality, and risk management.
• Maintain survey readiness through mock rounds and documentation audits, and support budget targets.
• Execute cross-functional strategic projects focused on quality, service, affordability, and efficiency.
• Respond to escalations involving quality and safety concerns.
• Monitor performance metrics for strategic improvement projects.
• Support continuous improvement in the quality and safety of clinical practices and operations.
• Ensure compliance with the Nursing Practice Act, The Joint Commission requirements, and applicable federal, state, and local requirements.
• Contribute to systems and processes that evaluate and improve patient care.

Minimum Qualifications

• At least 2 years of experience in patient care delivery.
• Associate's degree or higher in Business, Nursing, Health Care, or a related field, plus at least 2 years of experience in business operations or clinical health care; or at least 3 years of related experience.
• At least 1 year of leadership experience, with or without direct reports.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required at hire.
• California Registered Nurse license required at hire.
