Insurance Defense Attorney

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Insurance Defense Attorney to join our team in Jersey City, New Jersey. This role is intended for an attorney with 3–8 years of insurance defense litigation experience who can independently manage a caseload while collaborating with experienced litigators and firm leadership. Experience handling New Jersey automobile liability matters is strongly preferred.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage a caseload of insurance defense matters from inception through resolution.
• Draft pleadings, discovery requests and responses, motions, briefs, reports, and other litigation documents.
• Conduct and defend depositions, handle motion practice, and appear in court.
• Participate in arbitrations and mediations and prepare matters for trial.
• Handle automobile liability matters under New Jersey law.
• Maintain strong professional relationships with insurance carriers, claims professionals, and corporate clients.
• Conduct legal research and draft persuasive motions, briefs, and memoranda.

Education & Experience Requirements

Required:

• Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school.
• Active New Jersey law license.
• 3–8 years of insurance defense litigation experience.
• Experience independently managing litigation matters.
• Experience handling pleadings, discovery, depositions, and motion practice.
• Strong legal research, writing, and oral advocacy skills.

Preferred:

• New Jersey automobile liability defense experience.
• Experience representing insurance carriers or self-insured entities.
• Arbitration, mediation, trial, courtroom, or court-appearance experience.
• Premises liability experience.
• Existing professional relationships with insurance carriers or claims professionals.

Work Environment

Flexible hybrid schedule. New attorneys are generally expected to work from the Jersey City office 2–3 days per week initially.

Compensation

Competitive salary in USD, depending on experience.
