Position Summary

Responsible for engineering design using knowledge of general engineering principles and practices to interpret, organize, execute, and coordinate assignments with limited supervision. Serves as a technical advisor to less experienced engineers.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

  • Plan, schedule, conduct, or coordinate detailed phases of engineering work within a portion of a major project or on an entire moderate-scope project.
  • Analyze survey reports, maps, drawings, blueprints, aerial photography, and other topographical or geologic data to plan projects.
  • Perform design computations.
  • Design projects in accordance with client specifications and guidelines using design software and drawing tools.
  • Develop construction cost estimates.
  • Assist in preparing engineering documents for advertisement and construction.
  • Prepare and compile contract plans, specifications, and estimates.
  • Manage project subconsultants and in-house support disciplines.
  • Develop extra-work-order requests and open-end contract task proposals.
  • Prepare proposals as required.
  • Attend client meetings.
  • Coordinate with internal team members to ensure project completion by established deadlines and quality standards.
  • Lead and manage team members through expectation-setting, goal-setting, feedback, one-on-one meetings, coaching, and ongoing performance management.

Nonessential Functions and Responsibilities

  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or a related field from an ABET-accredited engineering program.
  • 5–10 years of experience in a specialized engineering discipline.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license.
  • Proficiency in discipline-specific design software.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Preferred Experience

  • PennDOT project experience is strongly preferred.
  • Experience working with local, county, and state clients.

Working Conditions

Work is performed in a general office environment approximately 95% of the time. The work is generally sedentary, with occasional standing and walking. Occasional fieldwork may be required in heat, cold, wet or humid, and dry conditions. Some lifting of up to 25 pounds may be required.
