Bridge Engineering Section Head

Position Summary

Lead and manage a team of structural bridge engineers responsible for planning, designing, and delivering structural projects. Provide technical leadership, oversee project execution, and help ensure work is delivered on schedule, within budget, and to high-quality standards.

This role is responsible for staff development, resource planning, collaboration with internal teams, clients, and stakeholders, business development, client relationship management, and maintaining technical excellence in structural bridge engineering.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

• Coordinate strategic growth plans with office managers and practice leaders.
• Establish and grow market presence through marketing and business development.
• Manage the department budget and allocate resources.
• Lead and contribute to proposal development.
• Serve as a technical resource for project managers and technical staff.
• Establish staffing and resource needs for the section.
• Interview and hire staff.
• Conduct performance reviews using input from project managers.
• Lead team members through goal setting, feedback, one-on-one meetings, coaching, and ongoing performance management.

Additional Responsibilities

• Perform other related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications and Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or a related field from an accredited program.
• Professional Engineer (PE) license.
• More than 10 years of experience in the relevant discipline.
• Experience with PennDOT bridge projects.
• Experience in project management and business development.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office.

Preferred Experience

• Experience working with county- and state-level clients.
• Supervisory experience.

Working Conditions

Work is performed primarily in a general office environment. The position is generally sedentary, with occasional standing and walking. The work environment has adequate lighting and temperature, with no known hazardous or unpleasant conditions caused by noise, dust, or similar factors.
