The Business Developer generates new business by qualifying opportunities and engaging key decision-makers through phone and in-person sales calls. Success in this role requires confidence in selling essential services, disciplined daily execution, and strong consultative selling skills, including active listening, effective questioning, and clear communication.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Generate new clients: Generate an average of two new clients per week; qualify prospects by assessing client needs, budget, and timeline; respond to buying signals; secure meetings with Employment Specialists; educate decision-makers on the Express process; introduce staffing agreements and new-account paperwork; and collaborate with Employment Specialists to move job orders toward fulfillment.
  2. Achieve sales activity goals: Self-generate opportunities through networking, referrals, and outbound activity; complete 120 total weekly sales calls, including 100 face-to-face visits; complete at least 60 weekly decision-maker calls; conduct five strategic appointments per week; document all calls and outcomes in the automated system and Results Pipeline Activity tracker; and maintain next steps in the sales pipeline.
  3. Manage the sales pipeline: Call on 800–1,000 accounts quarterly; evaluate weekly sales activity to identify high-potential prospects; and coordinate ongoing activity for the top 20 target accounts.
  4. Prepare territory plans: Divide the market into four or five territory divisions, plan daily activities in advance, schedule appointments, and prospect nearby businesses to maximize field time.
  5. Provide value-added sales support: Monitor labor-market trends, use knowledge-based campaigns and educational tools, anticipate account needs, support client satisfaction, cultivate existing relationships, and identify opportunities to cross-sell Express products and services.
  6. Collaborate with the internal team: Share territory plans and opportunities, communicate daily schedules, provide candidate profiles and leads, and pass job orders to Employment Specialists.
  7. Maintain compliance and professional knowledge: Follow Express guidelines and applicable federal and state laws, including FLSA, Title VII, ADA, and FMLA, and develop staffing-industry knowledge through coaching, ride-alongs, and hands-on training.

No direct supervisory responsibility.

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements

Essential activities are conducted away from the local office and in various office and plant settings. The role involves frequent travel, including exposure to inclement weather and road conditions, and requires the ability to work under the pressures of daily travel, deadlines, commitments, and account issues. A valid state driver's license is required, as well as the ability to climb stairs and carry necessary marketing materials.
