The Fabrication Estimator / Design Engineer will develop detailed shop drawings, create bills of materials and job routings, and gather and analyze financial data to estimate and allocate costs for current or proposed products or projects. This role also supports production teams by assisting with material readiness and schedule tracking.

Responsibilities

  • Review and understand the scope of RFQ opportunities provided by the sales team.
  • Estimate material and labor costs for fabricated components.
  • Develop detailed proposals for sales engineers.
  • Create bills of materials and job routings.
  • Develop cost-effective, high-quality designs, concept drawings, and detailed shop drawings for fabrication.
  • Work with the shop to understand manufacturing best practices and ensure designs support manufacturability.
  • Obtain quotations and issue purchase orders for parts and services.
  • Lead cross-functional reviews of RFQ packages with sales, shop, and procurement teams to ensure everyone understands the scope of work during kickoff meetings for larger projects.
  • Communicate design ideas effectively to the sales group and customers, serving as a liaison between the shop and sales group.
  • Stage materials and confirm that bills of materials and job materials are accurate for larger job orders.
  • Manage multiple quotes and projects simultaneously.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Education and Required Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Industrial, or Chemical Engineering; equivalent experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • At least 2–3 years of experience.
  • Basic understanding of job-costing principles.
  • Proficiency in 3D SolidWorks.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to create forecasts based on financial data.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
  • General understanding of stainless-steel welding and manufacturing processes preferred.
  • Experience in the stainless-steel fabrication and sanitary process-piping industry preferred.
