Position Summary

As a Manufacturing Engineer / Estimator, you will collaborate with machinists, engineers, supervisors, and managers to support production flow and product quality. You will support the machining of complex aerospace components, resolve production questions and product deviations, maintain production sequencing, support quoting activities, and prepare initial processing methods.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, document, test through simulation, and optimize CNC programs for numerically controlled machine tools using CAD/CAM technologies and methodologies.
  • Verify completed programs through simulation or testing in Vericut.
  • Develop and document machine-tool setups, including workpiece and tool positioning relative to machine axes.
  • Provide current CNC programs, posted code, setup documentation, and tooling information, including tool lists and tool-offset values, for CNC machining operations.
  • Lead the manufacturing team through product execution on the shop floor, including preparation, in-process support, and machine-floor prove-outs before production release.
  • Create and approve final work instructions for development and production hardware.
  • Prepare estimates for new hardware and enter them into the quoting system.
  • Participate in or lead Design for Manufacturing meetings.
  • Support production by answering process questions and following established procedures to resolve product nonconformance issues.
  • Implement lean process improvements to support schedule and cost targets.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical or manufacturing engineering, or an associate degree with relevant direct experience. Ten or more years of manufacturing experience may substitute for the degree.
  • At least three years of experience in a manufacturing environment involving heavy CNC machining and programming.
  • Machine-shop experience and a strong understanding of manual machining methods, including tool selection, speeds, feeds, and horsepower.
  • Hands-on experience operating CNC mills, lathes, EDM, or grinding equipment.
  • Understanding of programmed tool paths; experience machining parts from start to finish using manual turning and milling operations is highly desirable.
  • Knowledge of and experience with CAD/CAM technologies and methodologies, particularly NX, Mastercam, Esprit, and Mazatrol.
  • Experience working closely with shop-floor personnel to resolve tooling, machine, and process issues.
