Senior Mechanical Engineer – Pump Design

Position Summary

We are seeking an experienced Senior Mechanical Engineer to lead the design, development, and refinement of mud pumps, positive displacement pumps, frac pumps, and related mechanical equipment. The role requires hands-on machine design experience and a strong understanding of pump systems, mechanical integrity, and equipment performance. The engineer will help deliver innovative solutions while ensuring reliability, safety, efficiency, and compliance with applicable industry standards.

Required: Direct experience designing mud pumps, positive displacement pumps, frac pumps, or closely related equipment.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and improve mechanical equipment, pump systems, and related components.
• Create engineering drawings, layouts, and 3D models using CAD software.
• Perform stress analysis and finite element analysis (FEA) to evaluate component strength, durability, and reliability.
• Conduct tolerance studies and review drawings and technical documentation for accuracy and quality.
• Research, evaluate, and specify purchased components based on performance, compatibility, and cost.
• Develop test plans and validate component and system performance.
• Prepare reports documenting design calculations, analyses, testing, and results.
• Interpret P&IDs, electrical schematics, and hydraulic schematics to support design and integration.
• Collaborate with manufacturing, engineering, and cross-functional teams through equipment development and production.
• Ensure designs comply with engineering standards, safety requirements, and industry specifications.
• Keep current with engineering technologies, materials, and design methods to support product improvement.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.
• At least 3 years of mechanical design engineering experience; 5 or more years preferred.
• Experience designing mud pumps, positive displacement pumps, frac pumps, or closely related equipment.
• Demonstrated machine design and mechanical systems development experience.
• Proficiency with CAD software such as Creo, Autodesk Inventor, or SolidWorks.
• Experience with FEA tools such as ANSYS or SolidWorks Simulation.
• Ability to interpret engineering drawings, P&IDs, and electrical and hydraulic schematics.
• Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
• Attention to detail and ability to collaborate across engineering and manufacturing teams.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in oil and gas, oilfield services, or industrial pumping applications.
• Familiarity with hydraulic system design and implementation.
• Knowledge of API specifications, particularly API 6A, API 7K, and API 8C.
• Experience in an ISO-certified or API Q1-certified manufacturing environment.
• Hands-on mechanical experience, including mechanical systems, fabrication, or welding.
