Role Details

Contract: Short-term contractor assignment, expected to last 3 months
Location: Remote; candidates must be in an approved region of the USA or Canada
Start: Immediate
Compensation: $100/hour. The stated budget is $100–$150/hour, with the final rate based on interview feedback and candidate qualifications.
Commitment: At least 4 hours per day and 20 hours per week, including 4 hours of overlap with PST
Partner fee: $500

About the Role

We’re looking for a high-taste engineer with a strong eye for quality and hands-on experience with preference data and rubric creation. You should be able to distinguish good examples from great ones, communicate clearly, synthesize complex technical work, and thrive in an ambiguous, fast-moving environment.

Responsibilities

  • Design, refine, and iterate on rubrics and evaluation criteria for preference data.
  • Review and label data to a high quality bar, catching subtle issues.
  • Build and maintain pipelines and infrastructure for data generation, collection, and evaluation workflows.
  • Synthesize findings into clear write-ups, updates, and recommendations.
  • Collaborate with researchers and engineers to translate qualitative judgment into scalable processes.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience with Python, particularly building and maintaining pipelines and infrastructure, or with TypeScript, Golang, or JavaScript. Experience navigating or contributing to large codebases such as VS Code is a plus.
  • Hands-on experience with preference data collection and/or rubric creation.
  • Strong written and verbal communication, including the ability to turn technical work into clear, actionable summaries.
  • Strong judgment and the ability to explain why something is good, not just identify that it is.
  • A LinkedIn profile is required for review; include its link on your resume.
  • Candidates must not currently work for Microsoft.
