Job Summary

Position: Senior Physician Assistant – Urgent Care/Emergency Schedules: Various

Under the direction of a supervising physician, the Senior Physician Assistant provides high-quality, efficient, team-based, patient-focused care. Responsibilities may include caring for patients in office, hospital, emergency department, and/or perioperative settings. The role may require first assisting in the operating room, performing department-specific procedures, and participating in on-call responsibilities. Evening and weekend hours may be required.

This position also serves as a mentor to less experienced Physician Assistants.

Essential Responsibilities

• Examine patients, perform comprehensive physical examinations, and compile medical data, including health histories and examination results.
• Order or administer diagnostic tests, including imaging, ECGs, and laboratory tests, and interpret results.
• Perform therapeutic procedures, such as injections, immunizations, suturing, wound care, and infection management.
• Develop and implement patient management plans, document progress notes, and support continuity of care.
• Instruct and counsel patients on therapeutic regimens, health maintenance, and relevant patient education.
• Facilitate patient admissions, transfers, and discharges.
• First assist in surgeries or perform procedures, as applicable, and round on inpatients.
• Perform admission evaluations, document findings, and report deviations to the attending physician.
• Provide pre-operative and pre-procedure education to patients and families.
• Review patient charts for allergies, medical history, and abnormal findings.
• Perform post-operative procedures, review vital signs and diagnostic studies, and assist with patient management.
• Mentor less experienced Physician Assistants and collaborate on performance-improvement activities.

Qualifications

• At least 3 years of experience as a Physician Assistant within the past 5 years.
• Graduation from an ARC-PA-accredited physician assistant program.
• At hire: California Physician Assistant License, PA National Certification (NCCPA), and NPI registration.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• Fluoroscopy Permit for Orthopedics, Interventional Radiology, and Radiation Oncology, or the ability to obtain one within 18 months of hire.
• Advanced certification in a specialty area preferred.
