Position Summary
The Structural Project Engineer I performs engineering design and project coordination using general engineering principles and practices. This role interprets, organizes, executes, and coordinates assignments with limited supervision and provides technical guidance to less experienced engineers.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities
- Plan, schedule, conduct, and coordinate detailed phases of engineering work for portions of major projects or projects of moderate scope.
- Analyze survey reports, maps, drawings, blueprints, aerial photography, and topographical or geologic data to support project planning.
- Perform design calculations and computations.
- Design projects according to client specifications and guidelines using design software and drawing tools.
- Develop construction cost estimates.
- Assist with preparing engineering documents for advertisement and construction.
- Prepare and compile contract plans, specifications, and estimates.
- Manage project subconsultants and coordinate with in-house support disciplines.
- Develop extra-work-order requests and open-end contract task proposals.
- Prepare proposals as required.
- Attend client meetings.
- Coordinate with internal team members to complete projects by defined deadlines and quality standards.
- Lead and manage team members through expectation setting, goal setting, feedback, one-on-one meetings, and coaching to support their growth and development.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or a related field from an ABET-accredited engineering program.
- Five to ten years of experience in a specialized discipline.
- Proficiency with discipline-specific design software and Microsoft Office.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Professional Engineer license preferred.
- Experience working with local county and state-level clients preferred.
Working Conditions
- General office environment approximately 95% of the time.
- Occasional field work in varying weather conditions.
- Ability to lift up to 25 pounds may be required.
