Schedule & Compensation

• Schedule: Tuesday – Friday, 5:00 AM – 3:30 PM, with one working Saturday every 12 weeks.
• Annual Bonus: $5,000

About the Role

The Laboratory Supervisor II (Chemistry) oversees multiple laboratory functions, including laboratory testing for the core lab. This role monitors workflow from sample processing to results reporting and provides day-to-day guidance on teammate performance. The position evaluates and monitors compliance with service guarantees and specimen quality requirements, ensuring adherence to corporate standard policies and procedures related to job performance, customer interactions, teammate relations, and information confidentiality. As a licensed technical supervisor, this position may work a designated shift (day/evening/night) and reports to the Manager, Laboratory.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Provides overall direction, communication, and oversight to teammates regarding departmental workflow to ensure effective implementation and performance:

• Ensures teammate adherence to procedures and quality assurance requirements.
• Participates in and/or leads the development of and compliance with all departmental policies and procedures for performance and quality assurance.
• Serves as a resource to teammates, providing oversight and support to the training and competency program.
• Monitors performance against established targets, goals, and metrics.
• Identifies opportunities for process improvement within the department and between lab business lanes for efficiencies.

Provides leadership to direct reports:

• Facilitates the resolution of organizational obstacles encountered.
• Ensures understanding, implementation, and communication of employment policies and procedures, awards, and other opportunities within the company, fostering a positive work environment.
• Assists in teammate development (performance development reviews, coaching, mentoring, training, external training), collaborating with direct reports to create professional development goals.
• Manages teammate employment activities such as hiring, promoting, job performance, evaluations, and disciplinary actions with appropriate approvals.
• Maintains teammate records, including written performance evaluations and compensation records, in compliance with company policy and applicable laws. This includes:
  • Evaluation, recording, and processing of teammate reviews and compensation according to company policy.
  • Teammate timecard review and time off approval.
  • Performing competency evaluations and periodic performance reviews as required.

Monitors workflow and delegates responsibilities to team members:

• Establishes staffing plans to promote the most effective use of all teammates.
• Resolves operational and quality issues related to workload.
• Ensures coverage during teammate absences.
• Covers work benches as needed.

Maintains an active role in the laboratory’s quality improvement program (incident reports, CAP surveys, turnaround time, service guarantees, state requirements), safety policies, and ensures compliance with established laboratory outcome standards:

• Collaborates with other leaders to develop and implement section-specific Standard Operating Procedures, training programs, and compliance with regulatory and accrediting requirements.

Education & Experience

• Minimum of 6-8 years of experience as a Medical Technologist/Supervisor – required.
• Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology, biological sciences, or a related field – required.
• Florida Supervisors license in Clinical Chemistry and Serology – required.
• Certification by a professional laboratory certifying agency (e.g., ASCP, AMT) – required.
