Job Summary:

As a Surgical Technologist at Kaiser Permanente, you will be a vital member of our Health Care Team, delivering high-quality patient care aligned with our mission, vision, and values. In the scrub role during surgical procedures, you will coordinate activities with other Operating Room professionals.

Essential Responsibilities:

• Practice Standards: Adhere to all shift, unit, and organizational policies and procedures, including reliability and attendance standards. Maintain excellent attendance and punctuality. Take timely breaks to ensure adequate coverage and conduct personal business away from patient care areas. Accurately record productive time worked according to Kaiser's Time Keeping Policy. Stay informed about organizational policies and updates. Comply with contractual work schedule responsibilities. Participate actively in unit Quality Assurance Programs. Maintain current knowledge and skills through continuous learning and professional development. Utilize professional communication techniques. Maintain patient and organizational record confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA Standards. Foster collaboration and professional interaction within the health care team. Uphold professional conduct and adhere to department Standards of Behavior. Attend relevant inservices and staff meetings, contributing constructively. Stay informed of new concepts, skills, and information relevant to the role and department.
• Assessment: Ensure continuity of care through effective communication. Interact professionally and courteously with patients, families, and staff. Apply skills and knowledge to provide culturally sensitive, population-based care, drawing on education, training, and experience. Participate in accurate pre-operative briefings and time-out procedures. Conduct continuous reassessment throughout the intra-operative period.
• Planning: Plan for appropriate setup based on the specific procedure type. Apply skills and knowledge to provide age-appropriate care, drawing on education, training, and experience.
• Implementation: Initiate appropriate measures based on protocol for intra-operative patient management. Apply principles of aseptic technique meticulously. Evaluate sterile packs and supplies for integrity. Maintain an organized sterile field. Monitor procedure progression, anticipate team needs, and uphold sterile technique at all times. Perform all necessary procedures correctly to ensure intra-operative patient safety. Apply and assist with correct body alignment during patient positioning and transfers. Inspect unused equipment and instruments for contamination and transport used instruments to the utility room. Manage sterile core activities, prioritizing tasks such as picking case carts, restocking, reordering supplies, and assisting with OR room needs. Provide assistance during emergency situations. Collaborate with the Circulator in preparing for the next scheduled case. Facilitate room turnovers, including light housekeeping, procuring equipment and supplies, and managing X-rays. Restock unused supplies and equipment. Participate in the reprocessing of instruments.

Qualifications:

• Basic Qualifications:
• Education: Graduate of an accredited School of Surgical Technology.
• License, Certification, Registration: Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required at hire. Surgical Technologist Certificate required at hire.
• Additional Requirements:
• Proficiency in sterile core area operations.
• Strong understanding of sterile technique, operating room procedures, and equipment.
• Excellent manual dexterity and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to exercise sound judgment and maintain discipline.
• Ability to follow instructions accurately.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Two to five years of scrubbing experience across a variety of surgical procedures in an inpatient or ambulatory OR setting.
• Willingness to rotate through the sterile core area.
• Experience in cleaning and reprocessing instruments, stocking supplies, and picking case carts.
