Our San Francisco and Los Angeles offices are seeking a Plumbing Healthcare Project Leader to join the multidisciplinary buildings engineering team. In this leadership role, you will manage multidisciplinary projects, with a focus on major healthcare projects; lead the delivery of high-quality work; build strong client relationships; and develop and mentor engineers.

The successful candidate will have extensive design experience with plumbing systems in healthcare and hospital buildings, including:

  • Domestic cold-water systems
  • Water treatment
  • Domestic hot-water systems
  • Sanitary drainage and vent systems
  • Storm drainage systems
  • Pumping systems
  • Medical gas systems
  • Natural gas distribution systems
  • Special fire suppression systems, including gaseous and water mist systems
  • Acid waste and vent systems

This role can be based in San Francisco or Los Angeles.

Responsibilities

  • Lead plumbing engineering design on projects, particularly major healthcare projects, including responsible-charge responsibilities.
  • Deliver high-quality engineering work that supports internal project goals, including profitability.
  • Develop and maintain excellent client relationships.
  • Lead and supervise staff across a variety of projects, particularly healthcare and decarbonization initiatives.
  • Attend client-facing and OAC (Owner, Architect, Contractor) meetings.
  • Participate in local professional associations, including ASPE.
  • Support project pursuits by reviewing and preparing proposals or scoping documents.
  • Foster a culture of innovation, technical excellence, and inclusiveness.
  • Coach team members and support individual skill development.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Architectural Engineering.
  • At least 12 years of proven experience designing building plumbing systems.
  • Professional US engineering license or equivalent US-certified accreditation for the plumbing discipline.
  • Experience leading project teams on medium- to large-scale projects.
  • Ability to prioritize effectively, balance assigned work, and remain organized in an evolving work environment.
  • Experience with 3D BIM/CAD software such as AutoCAD MEP or Revit MEP, or proficiency in mapping out the BIM process from a multidisciplinary standpoint.
  • Familiarity with clash detection, multidisciplinary planning, and model-quality assessment using tools such as Navisworks or BIM 360.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills for team-based work.
  • Presentation skills for communicating with colleagues and clients at all levels.
