Position Summary

Lead and mentor a team of engineers delivering transportation structural projects from concept through completion. Guide project planning, define scope, manage schedules and budgets, coordinate multidisciplinary teams, and communicate effectively with stakeholders.

Proactively manage risks and resources, maintain high standards of quality, and keep projects on track through clear reporting and strong leadership.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

  • Manage projects in accordance with scope, schedule, and budget.
  • Collaborate with technical disciplines and subconsultants to develop risk-informed project scopes and fee proposals.
  • Develop project-specific plans, including project management plans and quality management plans.
  • Create and maintain project schedules.
  • Manage subconsultants.
  • Monitor project progress, identify and mitigate risks, develop extra-work-order requests, and prepare open-end contract task proposals.
  • Communicate project status, updates, and issues to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Participate in office project financial-status meetings.
  • Build client relationships to understand preferences and requirements and deliver quality projects.
  • Prepare progress reports and review invoices.
  • Develop and lead project-status meetings and presentations.
  • Assist Section Heads, Office Leaders, and Practice Leaders with marketing activities, including SMART Go/No Go decisions, proposal development, and interviews.
  • Coordinate and guide technical resources within the project team to support high-quality outcomes.
  • Coach and mentor project team members through one-on-one check-ins and project debriefs.
  • Lead and manage team members through continuous performance management, including setting expectations and goals, providing feedback, coaching, and supporting professional growth.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or a related field from an ABET-accredited engineering program.
  • At least 10 years of experience.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Strong presentation skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working with local county- and state-level clients.
  • Professional license or applicable certification.
  • Experience with multiple project delivery methods, including Design-Bid-Build, Design-Build, and P3.
  • Experience managing multidisciplinary project teams.

Working Conditions

Work is performed in a general office environment approximately 95% of the time. The work is generally sedentary, with occasional standing and walking. Field work is occasionally required and may involve outdoor heat, cold, wet or humid, and dry or arid conditions. Some lifting of up to 25 pounds may be required.
